Women, often as an aside, play up a movie beyond its problems or transcends a film when its wonderful. Cate Blanchett is one of those actresses. She can be the beautiful arm candy, the fault ridden hausfrau or the iridescent wood elf, all done with ease and grace.
"The Aviator" (2004)- Brilliantly acted, perfect casting- Blanchett is Kate Hepburn with sleek attitude and defines the life and love of this great actress as brave, thoughtful and filled with wicked humor.
"The Good German" (2006) - Ms. Blanchett disappears as the character unfolds, her nervous bravery moves the film forward.
"The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" (2008) - Oh, sometimes its difficult to wait for the perfect timing to completely trash a film. CC of BB is awful. While everyone leaving the theater was going on and on about how terrific it was and how they cried, my thoughts were on how wonderful performances got lost in the lengthy convoluted torture that was this film. Primarily the actors Jared Harris, Tilda Swinton and Cate Blanchett made this film watchable if not enjoyable. All three actors carried their vignettes as lone segmented portions tied to a sinking ship. Blanchett especially brought a level of believability and wonderment to an otherwise nothing film.
